The Administrative Review Tribunal upheld ASIC’s decision to impose a 10-year ban on Joel James Hewish, the former director of United Global Capital, from providing financial services or controlling related entities. The ban, effective from June 2024, arose from Hewish's role as the sole director and responsible manager of the firm, which faced regulatory action for deficient target market determinations and inappropriate superannuation switching advice. While the tribunal's decision was handed down in August 2025, ASIC’s investigation into the conduct of Hewish and related entities continues, and Hewish retains the right to appeal to the Federal Court.
