1967-10-18 | 2The Central Bank of Lebanon issued Circular No. 2 on 18 October 1967 to mandate that banks submit complete balance sheets for all accounts, rather than limiting submissions to debit and credit balances. The directive requires these documents to be filed on four-column forms that separately record account movements (totals) and account balances. This requirement ensures the Economics Department receives comprehensive statistical data for accurate economic monitoring.
Central Bank Circular No. 2
It has been noted that some banks attach their statistical data with balance sheets limited to the balances of their debit and credit accounts.
The Central Bank of Lebanon draws the attention of these banks to the obligation of sending balance sheets for all their accounts¹ to the Economics Department, on forms with four columns, recording in two of them account movements (totals) and in the other two account balances (debit or credit).
Beirut, 18 October 1967 Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon Elias Sarkis
¹ The name of this department was amended to become the "Economics Department" instead of the "Statistics and Economic Research Directorate" pursuant to Decision No. 13779 dated 28/11/2025.
