ASIC urges industry to lift private credit standards following REP 814 review

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has issued Report 814 to call on industry bodies to improve standards within the rapidly expanding $200 billion private credit sector. The report identifies concerning practices such as opaque fee structures and governance issues, while highlighting the need for alignment with international best practices to ensure market integrity. ASIC Chair Joe Longo emphasized that meaningful action is expected to address behaviors inconsistent with financial services law, with the regulator prepared to intervene if progress falls short.
