ASIC calls for urgent cyber uplift as AI accelerates cyber threats

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has issued an open letter urging all licensees and market participants to urgently strengthen their cyber resilience measures in response to intensified risks from frontier artificial intelligence. Commissioner Simone Constant emphasized that cyber resilience is a core licensing obligation requiring immediate action on governance, asset protection, and incident response to prevent system-wide exploitation. Regulated entities are required to table the letter at their board committees and implement specific defensive steps, including patching systems promptly and managing third-party risks, to withstand AI-accelerated threats.
