Bank of Ghana Climate-Related Financial Risk Directive

The Bank of Ghana has issued a directive mandating regulated financial institutions to systematically identify, govern, and manage climate-related physical and transition risks across their portfolios. Institutions must integrate these exposures into corporate governance, internal control frameworks, capital and liquidity adequacy assessments, scenario analysis, and comprehensive regulatory disclosures. With phased implementation beginning in January 2026 for banks and 2027 for other entities, the framework ensures financial system resilience while aligning Ghana’s banking sector with international sustainability standards and national climate commitments.
