CB Circular No. 01 of 2023 Implementation of Security Updates on the ZIPSS, CSD and EBOP Network Infrastructure

The Bank of Zambia is deploying security updates to the ZIPSS, CSD, and EBOP network infrastructure by retiring deprecated protocols and updating security keys. All commercial bank participants must perform corresponding updates on their interfacing equipment according to the assigned schedule dates to prevent service disruptions. Participants are required to submit the names and contact details of their nominated ICT Security or Operations staff to the helpdesk by close of business on January 20, 2023.

IMPLEMENTATION OF SECURITY UPDATES ON THE ZAMBIA INTERBANK PAYMENT AND SETTLEMENT SYSTEM, CENTRAL SECURITIES DEPOSITORY AND ELECTRONIC BALANCE OF PAYMENTS NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE

Reference is made to the above subject matter.

To improve the security posture of the Zambia Interbank Payment and Settlement System (ZIPSS), Central Securities Depository (CSD), and Electronic Balance of Payments (EBoP) network infrastructure, the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) will be deploying security updates on the equipment interfacing with all participants on the existing communication links. The security updates will include, among other enhancements, retiring deprecated protocols and changing security keys.

To facilitate these important changes, the BoZ has drawn up the attached schedule for implementation of the security updates to be followed with all key stakeholders. Please note that once updates are applied at BoZ by the indicated dates, this will result in service disruption if no corresponding action is taken by the participant.

Kindly, therefore, advise the names and contact details of the nominated staff who will perform the changes from the ICT Security and/or Operations functions. The details should be sent to zipss.helpdesk@boz.zm. We will appreciate your feedback by close of business on Friday, January 20, 2022. Additional details of the exercise will be communicated to the nominated officers.
