The Governor of the National Bank of Serbia issued this Decision to mandate the adoption of the IBAN standard and a unique account identification structure for all banks in Serbia. The regulation defines account designations as twenty-two-character strings comprising country codes, check digits, fixed bank codes, and account numbers, replacing previous identification methods. The new rules entered into force on 28 December 2006 and became applicable on 3 March 2007, with a transition period allowing older designations until 31 October 2007.
