Circular 20: Approval of Additional Securities Under the Friendly Societies Act, 1956

The Registrar of Friendly Societies issued Circular 20 to approve two additional securities for investment by friendly societies under sections 20(2)(h) and 20(2)(i) of the Friendly Societies Act, 1956. The approved instruments comprise R35 million in Local Registered Stock from the Corporation for Economic Development Limited and R15 million in 13.60% Local Registered Stock from the Republic of Bophuthatswana. Friendly societies must incorporate these issues into their approved investment lists and return auditor-signed acknowledgement forms to the Financial Institutions Office.

CIRCULAR F.S. 20 (To all friendly societies)

APPROVAL IN TERMS OF SECTIONS 20(2)(h) AND 20(2)(i) OF THE FRIENDLY SOCIETIES ACT, 1956

  1. The following further issue has been approved in terms of section 20(2)(h) of the Act and should be added to the list in paragraph 2 of circular F.S. 9 of 20 October 1977:

Corporation for Economic Development Limited R35 million Local Registered Stock (Loan Nos. 9 and 10).

  1. The following further issue has been approved in terms of section 20(2)(i) of the Act and should be added to the list in paragraph 4 of Circular F.S. 9 of 20 October 1977:

Republic of Bophuthatswana R15 million 13,60 per cent Local Registered Stock 2004 (Loan No. 1/81).

  1. A copy of this circular is enclosed for your auditor. Kindly have the attached acknowledgement form signed by him also before returning it to this Office.
