Bank Indonesia issued Regulation Number 11/7/PBI/2009 to amend the specifications of the 20,000 Rupiah banknote issued in 2004. The regulation updates the obverse design to include the year of print, the Board of Governors' signature, and an optical variable ink logo, while retaining the tea harvester image on the reverse. It also inserts Article 5A to declare that previously issued 2004 series notes remain legal tender until revoked.
Unofficial Translation BANK INDONESIA REGULATION NUMBER : 11/ 7 /PBI/2009 CONCERNING AMENDMENT OF BANK INDONESIA REGULATION NUMBER 6/29/PBI/2004 CONCERNING ISSUANCE AND CIRCULATION OF THE YEAR 2004 ISSUE OF BANKNOTES IN THE 20.000 (TWENTY THOUSAND) RUPIAH DENOMINATION BY THE GRACE OF THE GOD THE ALMIGHTY THE GOVERNOR OF BANK INDONESIA, Considering : a. Whereas the issuance and circulation of Rupiah is addressed to provide cash in society as an instrument of payment (legal tender); b. Whereas to optimalize the function of element on currency in the 20.000 (twenty thousand) Rupiah denomination as a legal tender in Indonesia, it is deemed necessary to enhance the design of Rupiah currency especially for the signature in bank notes, the placement of year of issue or year emission, and the year of print; c. Now therefore, based on the considerations referred to in letter a and letter b, it is necessary to amend Bank Indonesia Regulation concerning Issuance and Circulation of the Year 2004 Issue of Banknotes in the 20.000 (Twenty thousand) Rupiah Denomination; In view of : 1.
