Bank Indonesia Regulation Number 11/7/PBI/2009 Concerning Amendment of Regulation Number 6/29/PBI/2004 on the 20,000 Rupiah Banknote

Bank Indonesia issued Regulation Number 11/7/PBI/2009 to amend the specifications of the 20,000 Rupiah banknote issued in 2004. The regulation updates the obverse design to include the year of print, the Board of Governors' signature, and an optical variable ink logo, while retaining the tea harvester image on the reverse. It also inserts Article 5A to declare that previously issued 2004 series notes remain legal tender until revoked.

Unofficial Translation BANK INDONESIA REGULATION NUMBER : 11/ 7 /PBI/2009 CONCERNING AMENDMENT OF BANK INDONESIA REGULATION NUMBER 6/29/PBI/2004 CONCERNING ISSUANCE AND CIRCULATION OF THE YEAR 2004 ISSUE OF BANKNOTES IN THE 20.000 (TWENTY THOUSAND) RUPIAH DENOMINATION BY THE GRACE OF THE GOD THE ALMIGHTY THE GOVERNOR OF BANK INDONESIA, Considering : a. Whereas the issuance and circulation of Rupiah is addressed to provide cash in society as an instrument of payment (legal tender); b. Whereas to optimalize the function of element on currency in the 20.000 (twenty thousand) Rupiah denomination as a legal tender in Indonesia, it is deemed necessary to enhance the design of Rupiah currency especially for the signature in bank notes, the placement of year of issue or year emission, and the year of print; c. Now therefore, based on the considerations referred to in letter a and letter b, it is necessary to amend Bank Indonesia Regulation concerning Issuance and Circulation of the Year 2004 Issue of Banknotes in the 20.000 (Twenty thousand) Rupiah Denomination; In view of : 1. Bank Indonesia Regulation Number 6/14/PBI/2004 concerning Issuance, Circulation, Revocation as Legal Tender, Withdrawal from Circulation, and Destruction of the Rupiah Currency (State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia Number 52 of 2004, Supplement to State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia Number 4338) as amended by Bank Indonesia Regulation Number 9/10/PBI/2007 (State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia Number 113 of 2007, Supplement to State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia Number 4762); HAS DECREED: To enact : AMENDMENT OF BANK INDONESIA REGULATION NUMBER 6/29/PBI/2004 CONCERNING ISSUANCE AND CIRCULATION OF THE YEAR 2004 ISSUE OF BANKNOTES IN THE 20.000 (TWENTY THOUSAND) RUPIAH DENOMINATION Article I Several provisions in Bank Indonesia Regulation Number 6/29/PBI/2004 concerning Issuance and Circulation of the Year 2004 Issue of Banknotes in the 20,000 (Twenty Thousand) Rupiah Denomination (State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia Number 163 of 2004) amended as follows:

  1. The provisions of Article 4 shall be amended as follows: Article 4 The specifications of the banknotes in the 20.000 (twenty thousand) Rupiah denomination referred to in Article 1 are:

  4. to the lower left of the main image, the words “BANK INDONESIA” inscribed horizontally, and directly underneath this inscription, the inscription of “DUA PULUH RIBU RUPIAH” (twenty thousand Rupiah);
  5. to the upper right of the main image, the Republic of Indonesia emblem of the “Garuda Pancasila”;

  8. background and filler consisting of wavy, slanted lines and a series of lines curved in the shape of certain ornament;
  9. microtext inscribed “BANKINDONESIA” legible only with the aid of a magnifying glass: a) to the right of the image of National Hero Oto Iskandar Di Nata, forming vertical lines from upper to below; b) to the upper right of the national emblem of the “Garuda Pancasila” and to the lower right of signature of Governor of

  7. to the lower right, directly below the number “200000” representing face value, the inscription of “PERUM PERCETAKAN UANG RI IMP” (the Indonesian currency mint, 2004) and the year of issue “2004”;
  8. to the lower left the watermark, an invisibly printed image of a tea leaf that glows with greenish under ultraviolet light;
  9. to the upper left of the main image, an invisibly printed inscription of the number “20000” representing face value that will glows greenish yellow under ultraviolet light;

Material the specifications of the banknote paper are as follows: a. made of cotton fiber; b. length 147 mm and width 65 mm; c. light green color; d. does not glow under ultraviolet light; e. watermark depicting the National Hero Oto Iskandar Di Nata; f. woven security thread. 2. Between Article 5 and Article 6 was inserted 1 (one) Article, namely Article 5A as follows. Article 5 A The year 2004 issue of banknotes in the the 20.000 (twenty thousand) Rupiah denomination issued by Bank Indonesia before the enactment of this Bank Indonesia Regulation, are declared still remain as a legal tender along has not been revoked and withdrawn from circulation. Article II This Bank Indonesia Regulation shall come into force on the date of its enactment. So everyone knows, it is ordered that this rule be published in the State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia.
