Decree No. 2004-1041 of November 23, 2004 Authorizing the Central Bank of Madagascar to Issue New 2 and 1 Ariary Coins (Official Journal No. 2944 of December 6, 2004 p. 4981)

The Central Bank of Madagascar issued Decree No. 2004-1041 on November 23, 2004, to authorize the creation and circulation of new 2 and 1 Ariary coins. These new denominations will feature the same designs as the 1970 10 FMG and 1966 5 FMG coins, with their initial release scheduled for December 20, 2004. The decree mandates that existing 10 FMG and 5 FMG coins retain legal tender status, circulate concurrently with the new issues, and enter into force immediately upon broadcast or posted publication.

DECREE NO. 2004-1041 of November 23, 2004 Authorizing the Issuance of New 2 and 1 Ariary Coins by the Central Bank of Madagascar (Official Journal No. 2944 of December 6, 2004 p. 4981)

Article 1. The Central Bank of Madagascar shall issue new coins with respective face values of ARIARY 2 and ARIARY 1. These coins shall bear, respectively, the same designs and motifs as the 10 FMG coins issued in 1970 and those of the 5 FMG coins issued in 1966.

Article 2. The date of first issuance of these coins is set for December 20, 2004.

Article 3. The previous 10 FMG and 5 FMG coins issued in preceding years shall retain their legal tender status and circulate simultaneously with the coins defined in Article 1 above.

Article 4. Due to urgency and in accordance with the provisions of Article 6 of Ordinance No. 62-041 of September 19, 1962, regarding general provisions of domestic law and private international law, this Decree shall enter into force immediately upon its radio and/or television broadcast publication, or by posting, independently of its insertion in the Official Journal of the Republic.

Article 5. The Minister of Economy, Finance and Budget, the Minister of Telecommunications, Posts and Communication, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Madagascar are each charged, within their respective areas of responsibility, with the execution of this Decree.
