2013-06-11 | FPR/DIR/GEN/ADM/01/003The Nigerian Federal High Court has issued a notice proscribing two groups, 'Jama'atu Ahlis-Sunnah Lidda'awati Wal Jihad', also known as Boko Haram, and 'Jama'atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladi Sudan'. The existence of these groups in Nigeria has been declared terrorism and illegal. Any form of activity involving or concerning their collective intentions or otherwise is now considered an offence under the Terrorism (Prevention) Act, 2011, with penalties for violators, including prosecution.

E-mail: fprd@cbn.gov.ng 10th June, 2013 FPR/DIR/GEN/ADM/01/003 LETTER TO ALL BANKS AND OTHER FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS TERRORISM (PREVENTION) (PROSCRIPTION ORDER) NOTICE, 2013 The Federal Government of Nigeria in its effort to stem terrorism in the country has proscribed the activities of "JAMAATU AHLIS-SUNNA LIDDAAWATI WAL JIHAD" otherwise known as "BOKO HARAM" Sect and "JAMA'ATU ANSARUL MUSLIMINA FI BILADIS SUDAN" in any part of the country. Their activities are consequently declared as terrorism and illegal.
All banks and other financial institutions (OFIs) are, by this letter, required to check their database for the names "JAMAATU AHLIS-SUNNA LIDDAAWATI WAL JIHAD" otherwise known as "BOKO HARAM" Sect and "JAMA'ATU ANSARUL MUSLIMINA FI BILADIS SUDAN" as well as their associates and to report same to the Central Bank of Nigeria. Where no accounts or business relationship are maintained for any of the proscribed names or their associates, a nil return should be rendered.
A copy of the proscription order notice is hereby attached for your necessary action.
