Bank Indonesia Regulation No. 12/8/PBI/2010 Amending the 2005 Issue 10,000 Rupiah Banknote Specifications

Bank Indonesia issued Regulation No. 12/8/PBI/2010 to amend the design and security specifications for the 2005 issue 10,000 Rupiah banknote effective for prints starting in 2010. The updated specifications change the dominant color to bluish purple, introduce new anti-counterfeiting features such as a tactile blind code, rainbow printing, and scattered dot patterns, and adjust the obverse signature layout to include a Senior Deputy Governor. All previously circulated notes retain their status as legal tender until formally withdrawn, and the regulation takes effect immediately upon publication.

Unofficial Translation BANK INDONESIA REGULATION NUMBER: 12/8/PBI/2010 CONCERNING SECOND AMENDMENT OF BANK INDONESIA REGULATION NUMBER 7/40/PBI/2005 CONCERNING ISSUANCE AND CIRCULATION OF THE YEAR 2005 ISSUE OF BANKNOTES IN THE 10,000 (TEN THOUSAND) RUPIAH DENOMINATION BY THE GRACE OF THE GOD THE ALMIGHTY THE GOVERNOR OF BANK INDONESIA, Considering : a. Whereas the growth in public activity in cash transactions needs to be supported by availability of adequate amounts of rupiah currency as legal tender; b. Whereas to enchance the element function on currency in the in the 10,000 (ten thousand) Rupiah denomination, it is deemed necessary to enhance dominant color and security features of the currency design; c. Now therefore, based on the considerations referred to in letter a and letter b, second amendment of Bank Indonesia Regulation concerning the Issuance and Circulation of the Year 2005 Issue of banknotes in the 10,000 (ten thousand) rupiah denomination needs to ammended. In view of: 1.   1. The provision Article 4 shall be amended as follows: Article 4 The spesifications of the banknotes in the 10,000 (ten thousand) rupiah denomination as referred in Article 1, for year of print until 2009, are: a. color the dominant color printed on the obverse and reverse sides of the banknote is purple. b. image

Unofficial Translation b) to the left of the main image, an orange circle of a Palembangnese ornament that glows yellow under ultraviolet light; c) to the lower left of the main image, the words “BANK INDONESIA” inscribed horizontally, and directly underneath this inscription, the inscription of “SEPULUH RIBU RUPIAH” (ten thousand rupiah); d) to the upper left of the main image, inscribed horizontally, and to the right of the watermark, inscribed vertically, the number “10000” representing face value; e) to the left of the main image, below the number “10000” representing face value, a rectoverso image that if held up to the light will reveal a complete logo of Bank Indonesia; f) to the upper right of the main image, inscription of the latent image “BI” words in rectangular frame in the shape of Palembangese ornament which can be viewed from certain angles; g) to the upper right of the main image, the Republic of Indonesia emblem of the “Garuda Pancasila”; h) to the lower right, the Bank Indonesia logo in a octagon field, printed in optically variable ink that will change color from green to blue which can be viewed from certain angles; i) to the lower right of the main image, the number “2009” representing year of print (2009 number will be changed according to the year of print), inscription of “DEWAN GUBERNUR” (Board Of Governors), signature of the Governor of Bank Indonesia accompanied by inscription of “GUBERNUR” (Governor) and signature of a Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia and the inscription of “DEPUTI GUBERNUR” (Deputy Governor); j) background and filler consisting of wavy, slanted lines and a series of lines curved in the shape of Palembangese ornament; k) microtext legible only with the aid of a magnifying glass:

  1. to the left of the main image, filling the space in the number “10000”, the inscription of “BI”;

  6. woven security thread with repeated micro inscription of “BI10000” that glows red under ultraviolet light.

Article II The year 2005 issue of banknotes in the 10,000 (ten thousand) Rupiah denomination issued by Bank Indonesia before the enactment of this Bank Indonesia Regulation, are declared still remain as a legal tender along has not been revoked and withdrawn from circulation. Article III This Bank Indonesia Regulation shall come into force on the date of its enactment. So everyone knows, it is ordered that this rule be published in the State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia.
