AI in the Dutch Asset Management Sector: Usage Grows, Risks Grow Alongside

The Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) issued a March 2026 regulatory analysis requiring asset managers to establish formal AI governance frameworks, ethical guidelines, and technical controls as sector-wide adoption accelerates. A survey of 323 institutions shows that 53% already use or plan to use AI, primarily for data processing and information gathering, yet significant gaps remain in dedicated policies, explainability measures, and workforce literacy. The regulator mandates that firms proactively manage data quality, model transparency, and third-party dependencies to ensure responsible, compliant, and transparent integration of AI into investment decision-making.
