The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has amended the Mutual Funds Regulations to introduce Specialized Investment Funds (SIFs), bridging the regulatory gap between Mutual Funds and Portfolio Management Services. The framework establishes eligibility criteria for Asset Management Companies, mandates distinct branding, and permits specific equity, debt, and hybrid long-short investment strategies with a minimum investment threshold of INR 10 lakh. Implementation is effective from April 1, 2025, requiring market infrastructure institutions to update systems and AMFI to issue guidelines by March 31, 2025.
