The Central Bank of Belize issued Exchange Control Direction No. 16/2014 to establish a bilateral clearing arrangement with ten Caribbean nations to eliminate the need for US dollars in regional transactions. This framework allows payments to be settled monthly between Central Banks using local currencies via domestic banks, covering methods such as cheques and telegraphic transfers. The designated countries participating in this clearing system are Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, St. Kitts/Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago.
