Decision on the Issue and Main Features of 20-Dinar Coins

The Governor of the National Bank of Serbia issued a decision authorizing the minting of 20-dinar coins with specific physical and design characteristics. The regulation mandates that these coins weigh 9.00 grams, measure 28 mm in diameter, and consist of an alloy containing 70% copper, 12% nickel, and 18% zinc. The obverse features a portrait of Mihajlo Pupin while the reverse displays the Great Coat-of-Arms of the Republic of Serbia, with the decision taking effect upon publication in the Official Gazette.

“RS Official Gazette“ No 57/2012 Pursuant to Article 18, paragraph 1, Section 3, in reference to Article 55, paragraph 1 of the Law on the National Bank of Serbia (“RS Official Gazette”, Nos 72/2003 55/2004 and 44/2010), the Governor of the National Bank of Serbia hereby issues D E C I S I O N ON THE ISSUE AND MAIN FEATURES OF THE 20-DINAR COIN

  1. The National Bank of Serbia shall issue coins in denomination of 20 dinars.
  2. Coins from Section 1 hereof shall be made in the high gloss technique, from alloy of the following composition: 70% of copper, 12% of nickel and 18% of zinc.
  3. Coins from Section 1 hereof shall weigh 9.00 g and shall have a diameter of 28 mm. Allowed deviation from the weight of each individual coin from Section 1 hereof shall be  2.5%.
  4. The front (obverse) of coins from Section 1 hereof features as its central motif the portrait of Mihajlo Pupin in a left semi-profile. To the right of the portrait, written in a semi-circle are the years of his birth and death “1854– 1935”, and below them, written in Cyrillic letters in a semi-circle are the words “Mihajlo Pupin”. Left to the portrait is the numeral value "20", аnd below the portrait – the year of minting "2012". Above the portrait, the text "dinars" is written in a semi-circle in Cyrillic and Latin letters, separated by a dash.
  5. The back (reverse) of coins from Section 1 hereof features as its central motif the Great Coat-of-Arms of the Republic of Serbia. The text “REPUBLIC OF SERBIA”, separated by a dash, is written above and around it in Latin and Cyrillic letters. Below the coat-of-arms, “NBS” is written in the same way as the above; this lettering is mutually separated by a dash, whereas it is separated from the lettering “REPUBLIC OF SERBIA" by dots.
  6. The outer edge of coins from Section 1 hereof is divided into circular arches of 72 degrees which run along the circumference of the coin with alternating strips of smooth surface and ridges of 0.15 mm in radius.
