The Banking Act 1969

Issued by the President and National Assembly of Uganda, this Act establishes a comprehensive regulatory framework for all licensed banks and credit institutions operating domestically. It mandates ministerial licensing, enforces minimum capital and liquid asset thresholds, and restricts unsecured advances, trade investments, and immovable property acquisitions to protect financial stability. The Bank and the Minister retain inspection and enforcement powers to issue corrective orders, revoke licenses for non-compliance or insolvency, and impose penalties to safeguard depositor interests.
