The Central Bank of Montenegro issued a decision on April 28, 2006, to commemorate the centenary of the first Montenegrin State money by producing commemorative nickel and bronze coins. The decree specifies the issuance of 4,000 pieces each of 20, 10, 2, and 1 para denominations, detailing their precise alloy compositions, weights, and diameters. It further mandates specific design elements for the obverse and reverse sides, including the national coat of arms and minting year, while establishing that packaging arrangements will be determined by a separate decision.
Pursuant to Article 17 paragraph 1 point 2 of the Central Bank of Montenegro Law (OGRM 52/00, 53/00. 47/01), the Central Bank of Montenegro Council, at its meeting held on 28 April 2006, passed the following DECISION on Issuing Commemorative Coins – Alloys Article 1 The Central Bank of Montenegro (hereinafter: the Central Bank) shall issue, on the occasion of celebrating the centenary of minting the first Montenegrin State money in 1906, commemorative nickel and bronze coins – the Principality. Article 2 The commemorative nickel and bronze coins (hereinafter: the coins) referred to in Article 1 herein shall be issued in denominations of 20, 10, 2 and 1 para (the Principality) and in the quantity of 4,000 pieces each. Article 3 The coins shall be made of nickel and bronze alloy with following respective weights and diameters: Name Type of alloy Weight Diameter 20 para Nickel 4.00 g 21 mm 10 para Nickel 3.00 g 19 mm 2 para Bronze 3.33 g 19 mm 1 para Bronze 1.66 g 17 mm Article 4 The obverse of the coins shall be as follows: in the center of a coin there is Montenegrin coat of arms - a two-headed eagle with spread wings with the scepter in its right and the globe with a cross in its left claw, Montenegrin crown is above the eagle’s head and the lion in motion is on the shield on the eagle's breast. The relief elements specified above, and the rim of the coin with the wreath of dots along the edge shall be made in matte technique. The main surface of the coin shall be made using the technology of high coin brilliance. Article 5 The reverse of the coins shall be as follows: in the center of a coin there is a designation of a coin value stated by a number and text PARA. In the upper part of the coin there is Cyrillic text “Knjazevina Crna Gora”. The year of minting 2006 is stated along the lower edge of the rim. The relief elements specified above, and the rim of the coin with the wreath of dots along the edge shall be made in matte technique. The main surface of the coin shall be made using the technology of high coin brilliance.
The rim of the commemorative coins in denominations of 20 and 10 para made of nickel shall be denticulated. Article 6 The manner of packaging (the structure of the collections) of the coins shall be determined by a special decision of the Central Bank. Article 7 This decision shall enter into force on the day following that of its publication in the Official Gazette of Montenegro.
