The Central Bank of Myanmar has issued detailed instructions outlining the physical and security characteristics of the new and old 5,000 Kyat and 10,000 Kyat banknotes. The guidelines specify exact dimensions, printing methods, watermarks, micro-printed text, security threads, latent images, and ultraviolet fluorescence features for public verification. These standardized authentication markers ensure consistent quality and enable reliable tactile, visual, and light-based checks across all circulating denominations.

5,000 Kyat and 10,000 Kyat Banknotes: Characteristics of New and Old Formats

5,000 RWE / 5,000 Kyat (Old) (a) The 5,000 Kyat banknote (old format) is generally red.

  • Issued on October 1, 2009. Size is 150 mm in length and 70 mm in width. (b) Banknote Paper, Color, and Printing Method:
  • Printed using offset printing, so the banknote type, pictorial marks, and "Central Bank of Myanmar" text are clear. Tactile checks confirm no irregularities. (c) Water Mark:
  • When held up to the light, an elephant head image and the banknote type "5000" are clearly visible. (d) Micro-Print:
  • Contains many small printed letters on the banknote surface.

  • Under ultraviolet light in a dark room, "CBM" text inside the 5000 Kyat note and small clear letters "SECURITYPRINTINGWAZICBM" along the edges are visible.
