The Bank of Zambia issued Circular 06/2009 to inform commercial banks and bureaux de change that the old series of Botswana Pula banknotes will cease to be legal tender on December 31, 2009. While these notes will no longer be accepted as currency after that date, they remain exchangeable for their equivalent value at the Bank of Botswana in Gaborone and Francistown until December 31, 2014. To facilitate this transition, the Bank of Zambia is distributing posters highlighting the public recognizable features of the new family of Botswana Pula banknotes to all relevant financial institutions.
