Alert Notice on the Activities of Fraudsters

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has received information about fraudulent letters being circulated to banks, claiming they were written by the Governor's Personal Assistant. These letters do not originate from CBN and are intended for criminal purposes. Banks are advised to be vigilant against such correspondence and report any suspicious activity to either the CBN or law enforcement agents. The Director of Banking Supervision appreciates banks' cooperation in addressing this issue.

Alert Notice On Activities Of Fraudsters

The attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria has been drawn to a letter captioned "Performance Appraisal for Commercial Banks" (copy attached) currently being circulated to banks by a certain individual who claims to be Personal Assistant 11 to the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria. The said letter purported to have emanated from the office of the Governor, did not originate from the Bank. The Central Bank of Nigeria wishes to advise all banks to watch out for such criminally motivated correspondence and to promptly report to the CBN or the Law Enforcement Agents, any questionable character suspected to be involved in such fraudulent activities.
