These fake notes are suspected to be circulating within the subregion including Nigeria. All banks, bureau de change operators, and the public must exercise caution during transactions involving CFA notes and report any suspicious cases to law enforcement agencies.

This is to inform all banks, bureau de change operators and the general public that the Central Bank of West Africa (BCEAO), has issued an alert on the circulation of fake CFA notes. The fake notes in denominations of CFA10,000 which were recently discovered in Dakar, Senegal with serial numbers beginning with 0737836 ...... and ending with the letter D (ie. 0737836 .....D) are suspected to be already in circulation in countries within the subregion including Nigeria.
All banks, BDC operators and the general public are therefore requested to exercise necessary caution in transactions involving CFA notes and report suspected cases of these fake notes to the law enforcement agencies.
