The Central Bank of Tunisia issued Circular No. 2018-02 to mandate the issuance and legal tender status of new Tunisian coins denominated at fifty, twenty, and ten millimes. Effective March 19, 2018, these coins will circulate concurrently with existing denominations while retaining identical alloy, weight, diameter, edge, design, and inscription specifications, differing only in the dual year of issue marked as 2017-1438. This directive operationalizes the February 2017 Board of Directors resolution and aligns with Articles 13, 14, 15, and 63 of the Central Bank's governing Law No. 2016-35.
Tunis, March 16, 2018 CIRCULAR TO BANKS AND APPROVED INTERMEDIARIES No. 2018-02 Subject: Issuance into circulation of new Tunisian coins of fifty millimes, twenty millimes, and ten millimes. The Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia, Having regard to Law No. 2016-35 of April 25, 2016 establishing the status of the Central Bank of Tunisia and in particular its Articles 13, 14, 15, and Article 63, paragraph 3; Having regard to the resolution of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Tunisia dated February 1, 2017, deciding on the creation and issuance of Tunisian coins of fifty millimes, twenty millimes, and ten millimes; DECIDES: Article 1: The Central Bank of Tunisia shall issue into circulation, effective March 19, 2018, three new Tunisian coins of fifty millimes, twenty millimes, and ten millimes, which shall have legal tender status and discharge capacity. Article 2: The fifty millimes, twenty millimes, and ten millimes coins shall have the same characteristics (alloy, weight, diameter, edge, designs, and inscriptions) as those of the same denomination currently in circulation, with the exception of the year of issue, which is "2017-1438". These new fifty millimes, twenty millimes, and ten millimes coins shall circulate concurrently with the currently circulating coins.
