Definition of Liquid Assets under Section 86 of the Banking Act, No. 30 of 1988

The Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has classified investments in International Sovereign Bonds issued by the Government of Sri Lanka as liquid assets under Section 86 of the Banking Act. Licensed commercial banks must incorporate the daily market value of these bonds when calculating their statutory liquid assets ratio to comply with Section 21. Banks are further required to report the eligible value of these investments under designated codes in their monthly web-based returns for both domestic and offshore banking units.
