Business Names Act Chapter 247 (Revised Edition 2020)

The Government of Belize mandates that all firms and individuals operating under a business name not consisting solely of their true surnames and initials must register with the Registrar of Companies and Corporate Affairs. Registrants must submit detailed personal and business particulars within fourteen days of commencing operations or updating any registered information, while also displaying their true names on all external business correspondence. The legislation imposes strict penalties including daily fines, imprisonment, and contract enforcement disabilities for non-compliance or false statements, and empowers the Registrar to reject or remove misleading business names from the official register.
