The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo published Balance of Payments statistics for March 2026, revealing a current account deficit of €239.57 million, a 22.21% decrease from the previous year. This improvement was driven by a narrower goods trade deficit and a 17.64% increase in the services trade surplus, while remittances under secondary income rose by 7.62% to €313.46 million. Additionally, reserve assets increased by €130.37 million, primarily due to higher deposits, and direct investments in Kosovo grew by 7.81%.

The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo, in accordance with its publication calendar, presents the Balance of Payments statistics for March 2026.
The Balance of Payments – by the end of March 2026 was characterized by a current account deficit of €239.57 million, representing a decrease of 22.21% compared to the same period of the previous year. This decrease in the current account deficit is mainly attributed to the reduction of the deficit in the goods trade balance, as well as the increase of the surplus in the services trade balance.
Trade balance – in goods, by the end of March 2026, recorded a deficit in the amount of €1,275.76 million, which is 0.76% lower compared to the same period of the previous year. Exports for this period recorded a value of €233.72 million, representing an increase of 14.03%, while imports of goods recorded a slight increase of 1.27%, reaching a value of €1,509.48 million.
Services account – which continuously maintains a positive balance, by the end of March 2026 recorded a value of €478.21 million, representing a higher level of the positive balance by 17.64% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Primary income – by the end of March 2026 recorded a positive balance of EUR 98.37 million, whereas in the same period of the previous year it amounted to EUR 112.17 million, indicating a decrease of 12.30%.
Secondary income – remains the main contributor to mitigating the current account deficit. By the end of March 2026, this account recorded a positive balance of €459.61 million, representing an increase of 0.16% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Remittances – are the main category within secondary income, the value of which by March 2026 reached €313.46 million, representing an increase of 7.62% compared to the same period of 2025. Meanwhile, according to preliminary estimates, remittances for April 2026 were approximately €117.6 million, thus reaching a (preliminary) value of €431.07 million for the first four months of 2026. The largest inflows during April were through NBFIs at 59.67%, through commercial banks at 17.74%, and through other channels at 22.59%.
Assets in the financial account – by the end of March 2026 recorded a positive balance of €162.08 million. Whereas financial liabilities – recorded a positive balance of €368.25 million.
Direct investments in Kosovo – by the end of March 2026 amounted to €215.55 million, representing an increase of 7.81% compared to the same period of the previous year, while direct investments abroad recorded a value of €71.23 million, a slight decrease of 4.10% compared to the same period of 2025.
Reserve assets – by the end of March 2026 increased by €130.37 million, whereas in the same period of the previous year they amounted to -€18.84 million. The increase in reserve assets was mainly driven by the increase in deposits, which during this period rose by €153.88 million, while investments in securities decreased by €23.51 million due to maturity.
