Public Notice on GISI Qualifications and Revised Securities Courses
The Securities and Exchange Commission of Ghana has approved the Ghana Investment and Securities Institute Ltd (GISI) to assume management of the former Ghana Stock Exchange securities training programmes. The revised GISI-CISI Qualifications, developed in partnership with the UK’s Chartered Institute of Securities & Investment, will now serve as the mandatory licensing framework for capital market operators. Student registration for the joint programme commences in August 2020, with full details published on the SEC and GISI websites for immediate industry compliance.
‘Ensuring Investor Protection’ THE SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) hereby issues this Notice pursuant to Sections 3 and 208(c) of the Securities Industry Act, 2016 (Act 929) with respect to the taking over of the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) courses by Ghana Investment and Securities Institute Ltd (GISI) GISI, a company registered under the laws of the Republic of Ghana with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE), Ghana Securities Industry Association (GSIA) and the Central Securities Depository (CSD) as shareholders, took over the management and delivery of securities training from January 2020. The training programmes to be delivered by GISI are the GISI-CISI Qualifications and GISI Courses, which is the revised version of the GSE Securities Courses. The GISI-CISI Programme shall be implemented in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investment (CISI) of the United Kingdom under a Memorandum of Understanding executed on 10th June, 2019 by GISI and CISI. The Securities and Exchange Commission has consequently approved the GISICISI Qualifications and GISI Courses for the licensing of capital market operators. Registration of students for the joint programme shall commence from August 2020. The GISI shall engage Market Operators and members of the general public directly with the details of the joint programme which will run concurrently. The details of the programme shall also be published on the websites of the SEC (www.sec.gov.gh) and GISI (www.gisinstitute.org).
