Decision on Issuance and Basic Features of Numismatic Money with the Portrait of Nikola Tesla

The Governor of the National Bank of Serbia issued a decision to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Nikola Tesla's death by issuing 100-dinar numismatic coins in 2018. The issuance comprises 210,000 silver coins with a fineness of 99.95%, distributed as 10,000 proof pieces and 200,000 high gloss pieces, featuring specific obverse and reverse designs honoring Tesla's legacy. The National Bank of Serbia retains the authority to determine the sale price of these coins, which became effective upon publication in the Official Gazette.

RS Official Gazette, No 10/2018 Pursuant to Article 18, paragraph 1, Section 3) and Article 57а, paragraph 1 of the Law on the National Bank of Serbia (RS Official Gazette, Nos 72/2003, 55/2004, 85/2005 – other law, 44/2010, 76/2012, 106/2012, 14/2015 and 40/2015 – CC decision), Governor of the National Bank of Serbia hereby issues D E C I S I O N ON ISSUANCE AND BASIC FEATURES OF NUMISMATIC MONEY WITH THE PORTRAIT OF NIKOLA TESLA

  1. To mark 75 years since the death of Nikola Tesla, in year 2018 the National Bank of Serbia shall issue numismatic money in the denomination of 100 dinars.
  2. The National Bank of Serbia shall issue 210,000 pieces of numismatic money referred to in Section 1 of this Decision in total nominal value of 21,000,000.00 dinars.
  3. The numismatic money referred to in Section 1 of this Decision shall be made of silver, fineness 99.95%, mass of 31.1 g and diameter of 40.2 mm in the following minting technique: ‒ 10,000 pieces in the special (“proof”) technique, with high gloss flat surfaces and matte relief details of commemorative motifs; ‒ 200,000 pieces in the special (“high gloss”) technique, with high gloss surfaces. The mass of each individual numismatic money piece referred to in paragraph 1 of this Section shall be permitted to deviate within the range of +1/- 0% relative to the mass stated in that paragraph. The diameter of each individual piece of numismatic money referred to in paragraph 1 of this Section shall be permitted to deviate within the range of ±0.05 mm relative to the diameter stated in that paragraph.
  4. The obverse of the numismatic money referred to in Section 1 of this Decision shall be as follows: the middle part features the portrait of Nikola Tesla in right semi-profile, with the words “Nikola Tesla” written above the portrait, in Latin letters on the left side and in Cyrillic letters on the right side. Below the portrait, the text “ELECTRICAL VISIONARY” is written in the right line, and along the rim, in a semicircle line, the text “POWERING THE FUTURE”. Featured between those inscriptions is the stylised sign of lightning.
  5. The reverse of the numismatic money referred to in Section 1 of this Decision shall be as follows: the central part features Tesla’s alternating current

Below the Tesla’s alternating current generator, the text “LIGHTING THE DISTANCE” is written in the first line and the year of minting “2018” in the second line. In the upper half, above the central part motifs, the text “REPUBLIKA SRBIJA“ is written in a semicircle, left to right, in Latin and Cyrillic letters. In the lower half, below the central part motifs, the text “1 oz. 999 SILVER” is written in a semicircle аnd in continuation, separated by a dot, the words “NBS” in Latin and Cyrillic letters – separated by a hyphen. To the right of that inscription, separated by a dot, is the designation of the nominal value “100” and on its left￾and right-hand side, the text “DINARA” in Latin and Cyrillic letters. The semicircle inscriptions in the upper and lower half of the reverse are separated by dots. 6. Along the rim of numismatic money referred to in Section 1 of this Decision are vertical rounded reeds of 0.2 mm diameter. 7. The National Bank of Serbia shall sell the numismatic money referred to in Section 1 of this Decision at a price it determines. 8. This Decision shall come into force on the day of its publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia.
