Recording of Unique Identification Numbers of Depositors

The Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka mandates that all licensed finance companies record and report Unique Identification Numbers (UINs) for depositors within their core information systems. The directive establishes category-specific identification requirements, designating National Identity Card numbers for Sri Lankan citizens, passport or foreign registration details for non-citizens and minors, and statutory registration numbers for institutional entities. Effective October 2022 for new accounts and December 2023 for existing depositors, the requirement enables the Sri Lanka Deposit Insurance and Liquidity Support Scheme to enhance data integrity and inform key financial sector policy decisions.
