Decision on Issuance and Basic Features of Numismatic Money with the Portrait of Nikola Tesla

The Governor of the National Bank of Serbia issued a decision authorizing the production of 100 dinar numismatic coins honoring Nikola Tesla in 2020 and 2021. Each coin is specified as a 1 oz silver piece with precise physical dimensions and distinct reverse designs illustrating Tesla's X-ray experiments and Wardenclyffe tower. The National Bank of Serbia retains the authority to determine the sale price for these commemorative items upon the decision's publication in the Official Gazette.

RS Official Gazette, No 130/2021 Pursuant to Article 18, paragraph 1, item 3) and Article 57а, paragraph 1 of the Law on the National Bank of Serbia (RS Official Gazette, Nos 72/2003, 55/2004, 85/2005 – other law, 44/2010, 76/2012, 106/2012, 14/2015, 40/2015 ‒ CC decision and 44/2018), the Governor of the National Bank of Serbia hereby issues D E C I S I O N ON ISSUANCE AND MAIN FEATURES OF NUMISMATIC MONEY WITH THE PORTRAIT OF NIKOLA TESLA

  1. The National Bank of Serbia shall issue numismatic money with the portrait of Nikola Tesla in the denomination of:
  1. 100 dinars, with “2020” as the year of minting – 210,000 pieces in the total nominal value of RSD 21,000,000.00;
  2. 100 dinars, with “2021” as the year of minting – 210,000 pieces in the total nominal value of RSD 21,000,000.00.
  1. The numismatic money referred to in Section 1 of this Decision shall be made of silver, 99.95% fineness, 31.10 g in weight and 40.20 mm in diameter, in the following minting techniques:
  1. 10,000 pieces each in the special (“proof”) technique, with high￾gloss flat surfaces and matte relief details of commemorative motifs;
  2. 200,000 pieces each in the special (“high-gloss”) technique, with high-gloss surfaces. The weight of each individual piece of numismatic money referred to in paragraph 1 of this Section may deviate +1/-0% from the weight stated in that paragraph. The diameter of each individual numismatic money piece referred to in paragraph 1 of this Section may deviate ±0.05 mm from the diameter stated in that paragraph.
  1. The design of the obverse of numismatic money from Section 1 hereof shall be as follows: the central part features the portrait of Nikola Tesla in a right semi-profile, with the words “Nikola Tesla” above the portrait, in Latin script on the left and in Cyrillic script on the right. Below the portrait, in a straight line, runs the wording “ELECTRICAL VISIONARY”, while along the rim, in a semicircular line, runs the wording “POWERING THE FUTURE”. Featured between these wordings is the stylized sign of the lightning.

The design of the reverse of numismatic money from Section 1, item 1) of this Decision shall be as follows: the central part features a photo of Nikola Tesla’s hand under X-rays, to illustrate his X-ray experiments. Above that photo, runs the wording “X-RAYS”. The first line of the text below the photo reads “TESLAʹS SHADOWGRAPH”, the second line designates the year of minting “2020” and the third line includes the wording “NBS” in both Latin and Cyrillic script, separated by a dot. The design of the reverse of numismatic money from Section 1, item 2) of this Decision shall be as follows: the central part features the Tesla tower or Wardenclyffe tower on Long Island, the unfinished wooden radio-transmitter and experimental station, which Tesla started building in 1901 in order to implement his ideas of wireless power transmission. In the central part, to the left of the tower runs the wording “HARNESSING” and to the right – the wording “THE FIELD”. The first line of the text below the tower reads “FREE ENERGY”, the second line designates the year of minting “2021” and the third line includes the wording “NBS” in both Latin and Cyrillic script, separated by a dot. In the upper half of the reverse of numismatic money referred to in Section 1 of this Decision, above the central motif from paragraphs 1 and 2 of this Section, the wording “REPUBLIKA SRBIJA” runs in a semicircle, left to right, in both Latin and Cyrillic script, while the central part features the Great Coat-of-Arms of the Republic of Serbia. In the lower half, below the central motif, runs the wording “1 oz. 999 SILVER”, left to right. To the right of this wording, separated by a dot, runs the wording “DINARA 100 ДИНАРА”. The wordings run in a semicircle in the upper and lower half, and are separated by dots. 5. Along the rim of the numismatic money from Section 1 hereof there are vertical rounded reeds of 0.20 mm in diameter. 6. The National Bank of Serbia shall sell the numismatic money referred to in Section 1 of this Decision at a price it determines. 7. This Decision shall enter into force on the day of its publication in the RS Official Gazette. D.
