The Bank of Zambia issued an urgent circular to all commercial banks and bureaux de change warning of a specific forged South African R50 note bearing serial number BE 8207552 C. The directive requires financial institutions to exercise extreme caution and utilize detailed security feature comparisons covering paper composition, watermarks, security threads, and UV fluorescence to distinguish the counterfeit from genuine currency. These identification guidelines, sourced from the South African Reserve Bank, highlight critical discrepancies in print quality, dimensional accuracy, and tactile features to prevent the acceptance of the fraudulent banknote.
