Bank of Zambia Circular No. 07/2023 Update on Security Updates for ZIPSS, CSD and eBOP Network Infrastructure

The Bank of Zambia requires all commercial banks and financial institutions to implement final security updates across the ZIPSS, CSD, and eBOP network infrastructure through a "big-bang" transition between April 6 and 10, 2023. Participants must complete their assigned implementation windows as scheduled, with consultant Micronics Limited providing on-site support to mitigate service disruption risks. Failure to apply these security changes within the designated period will result in immediate loss of connectivity and service to the affected payment and settlement systems.

UPDATE – IMPLEMENTATION OF SECURITY UPDATES ON THE ZAMBIA INTERBANK PAYMENT AND SETTLEMENT SYSTEM, CENTRAL SECURITIES DEPOSITORY AND ELECTRONIC BALANCE OF PAYMENTS NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE

Reference is made to our CB Circular No. 01/2023 dated January 16, 2023, on the above subject matter.

Following the successful implementation of security updates between the participants' production sites and the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) Disaster Recovery site, BoZ is now ready to transition to the final stage which will involve making similar changes between the BoZ production site and the participants' production sites. This change will be carried out in a "big-bang" manner with no transition period between the old and new settings.

This entails that all participants apply the new changes within the change period from April 6 to April 10, 2023. The BoZ has, therefore, engaged a consultant, Micronics Limited, to work with all participants to facilitate this change during the change period, thereby mitigating the risk of service disruption. All participants are urged to make the necessary arrangements to ensure that the security updates are concluded within the allotted time as shown in the attached implementation schedule. Please note that failure to implement these changes will result in the participant losing service to the ZIPSS/CSD and eBOP systems.
