Bank of Zambia Circular No. 3/2015 on Banknotes with Governor Denny Kalyalya's Signature

The Bank of Zambia issued Circular No. 3/2015 to announce the November 2015 circulation of new banknotes bearing Governor Denny Kalyalya’s signature while maintaining all existing note specifications. Each denomination now features a specific number of slanting intaglio lines to assist visually impaired users, ranging from two lines on the K2 note to seven on the K100 note. The previous series signed by the former Governor remains legal tender, and institutions are instructed to retain the enclosed K2 specimen note in safe custody pending potential recall.

BANKNOTES WITH GOVERNOR DENNY KALYALYA’S SIGNATURE

In accordance with the general provisions of Part IV of the Bank of Zambia Act 1996, please be advised that the Bank of Zambia put into circulation banknotes in November 2015 with the signature of Governor Denny Kalyalya. The other features and note specifications remain unchanged. In addition, the banknotes have special marks in the form of slanting lines printed in intaglio (raised ink). The special marks are for easy identification of the notes by the visually impaired members of the public. Each denomination bears a certain number of these special lines as follows:

We further advise you that the current series of banknotes which were signed by the previous Governor remain legal tender.

Meanwhile, we hereby enclose one specimen note for K2 for your information and safekeeping. As usual, please note that the Bank of Zambia reserves the right to recall specimen notes, therefore, must be kept in your safe custody for such eventuality.
