The Bank of Zambia has officially launched the Currency Automation System (CAS), requiring all commercial banks to submit Heritage series cash withdrawal and deposit notices exclusively through the designated e-portal. The phased rollout, beginning at the Lusaka Head Office and expanding to regional offices and seven sub-chests nationwide, streamlines currency operations by automating electronic notifications and payment executions. While old series deposits retain existing procedures, the central bank will now process withdrawals, shortages, penalties, and overages directly to commercial banks’ settlement accounts via the Payment Originator facility.

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CURRENCY AUTOMATION SYSTEM
We are pleased to inform all commercial banks that the Currency Automation System (CAS) has officially gone live, following extensive training and preparation. The rollout of CAS is being implemented in phases, beginning with the Bank of Zambia Head Office in Lusaka, and will subsequently extend to the Bank of Zambia Regional Office in Ndola, and thereafter to all seven sub-chests nationwide.
This milestone marks a significant step in the modernization of currency operations, aimed at enhancing efficiency and streamlining the management of currency transactions. CAS introduces key process improvements for commercial banks, including the electronic submission of cash withdrawal and deposit notifications, as well as the execution of payments with the Bank. Commercial banks will be informed as the phased implementation progresses to other sites.
Commercial banks are now required to submit notices for cash withdrawals and deposits of the Heritage series exclusively via the e-portal, accessible through the address below:
IP Address: 192.168.14.2, https://192.168.14.2:9443/eclient/login.
Notices for cash deposits of the old series will continue to follow existing procedures. The Bank of Zambia will manage debits related to cash withdrawals, shortages, and penalties through the Payment Originator facility, while deposits and overages will be credited to commercial banks’ settlement accounts in line with current practice.
To ensure a smooth transition, commercial banks are encouraged to whitelist their systems for uninterrupted access to the e-portal. All transactions should be submitted by authorized portal users or signatories, in accordance with existing authorization protocols.
