Retirement Benefits Schemes Act 2000 (Appointed Day) (No. 1) Order 2001

The Minister for the Treasury issued this Order to appoint 1st April 2001 as the commencement date for specific provisions of the Retirement Benefits Schemes Act 2000. The designated provisions include the constitution of the Insurance and Pensions Authority, the powers of the Council of Ministers and Review Committee, and general interpretative and amendment sections. Additionally, the Order allows for the making of public documents under the Act prior to the full implementation of the remaining statutory provisions.

• Statutory Document No. 173/01 THE RETIREMENT BENEFITS SCHEMES ACT 2000 THE RETIREMENT BENEFITS SCHEMES ACT 2000 (APPOINTED DAY)(No. 1) ORDER 2001 In exercise of the powers conferred on the Treasury by section 56 of the Retirement Benefits Schemes Act 2000 1 , and of all other enabling powers, the following Order is hereby made:— Citation and interpretation • 1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Retirement Benefits Schemes (Appointed Day)(No. 1) Order 2001. (2) In this Order, "the Act" means the Retirement Benefits Schemes Act 2000. Appointed day 2. The day appointed for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Retirement Benefits Schemes Act 2000 is 1 stApril 2001 — (a) Section 37 (Constitution of Insurance and Pensions Authority); (b) Section 38 (3) (Regulations made by Council of Ministers) and (10) (Practice and procedure of Review Committee); (c) Sections 51 (Regulations and Orders); 52 (Financial provision); 53 (Principal Terms Defined); 54 (Interpretation — General); 55 (Amendments and Repeals); 56 (Short Title and Commencement); (d) Schedule 1 (Insurance and Pensions Authority); Schedule 2 (Amendments of Enactments); Schedule 3 (Repeal of Enactments); (e) and all other provisions of the Act but only to such extent as is necessary for the purpose of making public documents under the Act. • EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Order) This Order provides for the coming into force of certain provisions of the Retirement Benefits Schemes Act 2000 concerning the constitution and functions of the Insurance and Pensions Authority and the powers of making subordinate regulations and orders. • S -2-
