The National Bank of Angola hereby withdraws from circulation the Nkz. 5,000, Nkz. 1,000, and Nkz. 500 banknotes printed under Law 12/90, effective 30 June 1993. Following this withdrawal date, the central bank remains legally obligated to receive and redeem these specific notes for a subsequent five-year period starting from the same date. This notice, issued under Article 10 of the Bank's Organic Law, takes immediate effect and mandates the publication of these withdrawal terms.

NOTICE No. 1/93 of 28 January

Whereas the conditions have been established to withdraw from circulation the notes printed by the state presses and put into circulation under Law 12/90 of 22 September;

Under these terms, and in exercise of the authority conferred upon me by Article 10, paragraphs 1 and 2, of the Organic Law of the National Bank of Angola;

I HEREBY DETERMINE:

  1. The notes printed by the state presses with a face value of Nkz. 5,000.00, Nkz. 1,000.00, and Nkz. 500.00 shall cease to have legal tender status effective 30 June of the current year.

  2. Following the date mentioned in the preceding point, the National Bank of Angola shall remain obligated to receive and pay the aforementioned notes for a subsequent period of 5 years.

  3. The counting of the period referred to in the preceding point shall begin on 30 June of the current year.

  4. This Notice enters into force immediately.
