Banknote imagery expert panel minutes – 24 April 2026

The Bank of England’s Banknote Imagery Expert Panel recommended a shortlist of animals for the next series of UK banknotes to be selected via a public consultation in June 2026. The Panel divided the candidates into three categories—Mammals, Birds, and Amphibians, insects & fish—while removing species that lacked distinct movements or were not widely recognized across the UK. The final selection of four animals will be made by the Governor after considering the consultation results and the Bank's objectives for secure, inclusive, and distinctive design.
