The Executive Board of the National Bank of Moldova issued Decision No 38 to amend its 2018 regulation governing how banks calculate credit risk under the standardised approach. The amendment transposes numerous provisions from the amended EU Capital Requirements Regulation, introducing updated definitions for real estate and commitment exposures, revising risk weight tables for sovereign and institutional counterparties, and establishing new treatment rules for central counterparties and covered bonds. Banks must align their internal risk assessment frameworks and reporting procedures with these revised prudential standards, which take full effect on 1 July 2027 with specific provisions applying from 1 January 2028.
