CBK Governor Meets World Bank Technical Assistance Mission on Consumer Protection

The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosova (CBK) met with a World Bank Technical Assistance Mission funded by SECO to advance consumer protection and financial education frameworks. The engagement focuses on developing modern supervisory approaches aligned with OECD/INFE and EU standards to strengthen market transparency and financial inclusion. Governor Ismaili reaffirmed the CBK's commitment to these strategic priorities to enhance citizen financial knowledge and sector stability.

The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosova (CBK), Mr. Ahmet Ismaili, together with Deputy Governor Ms. Nesrin Shileku-Shala and colleagues, met the World Bank Technical Assistance Mission funded by SECO supporting the CBK in the process of advancing consumer protection and financial education. The Mission is led by Ms. Oya Ardic Pinar Alper and Mr. Sergio Jose De Mesquita Gomes, Senior Financial Sector Specialists from Global Financial Services Sector, together with colleagues.

During the meeting with the Mission, cooperation with the World Bank was discussed with a view to further advancing the CBK’s framework for financial consumer protection and financial education, as areas of strategic importance for strengthening confidence, transparency, and the sustainability of the financial sector.

This engagement aims to support the development of modern approaches aligned with the best international practices in the area of supervision of market practices and conduct, consumer protection, and financial education, contributing to strengthening the role of the CBK in promoting a responsible, inclusive, and citizen-oriented financial sector.

Governor Ismaili emphasized that consumer protection and financial education remain among the CBK’s strategic priorities, serving to enhance citizens’ financial knowledge, promote financial inclusion, and strengthen well-informed financial decision-making.

The CBK aims to ensure that the new frameworks and instruments in these areas are developed in line with OECD/INFE recommendations, relevant European Union frameworks, and other international standards, reflecting a modern, inclusive approach tailored to the needs of Kosovo’s financial market.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Governor Ismaili expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s and SECOs continued support and reaffirmed the CBK’s commitment to advancing consumer protection and financial education, as part of broader efforts to strengthen stability, integrity, and confidence in the financial sector.
