The Government of Belize enacted Chapter 245 of the Substantive Laws to codify the legal framework governing bills of exchange, promissory notes, and cheques. The Act defines the requisite form and interpretation of negotiable instruments while establishing the capacity, authority, and liabilities of all parties involved in their creation and transfer. It further prescribes the duties of holders, procedures for presentment and dishonour, and specific protections for bankers regarding crossed cheques and drafts.
