Exchange Control (Amendment) Regulations, 2013

The Minister responsible for exchange control in Belize issued Statutory Instrument No. 63 of 2013 to amend the Exchange Control Regulations. This instrument repeals and replaces Regulation 33 to explicitly exempt the Government of Belize from exchange control requirements for opening bank accounts and conducting foreign currency transactions. The regulations were gazetted on June 26, 2013, and came into force on June 24, 2013.

STATUTORY INSTRUMENT

No. 63 of 2013

REGULATIONS made by the Minister responsible for exchange control, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 3 of the Exchange Control Regulations Act, Chapter 52 of the Substantive Laws of Belize, Revised Edition 2000-2003, and all other powers thereunto him enabling.

(Gazetted 26th June, 2013).

  1. These Regulations may be cited as the Short title.

EXCHANGE CONTROL (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 2013,

and shall be read and construed as one with the Exchange Control Regulations, which, as amended, are hereinafter referred to as the principal Regulations.

  1. Regulation 33 of the principal Regulations is hereby repealed and replaced by the following:-

Repeal and replacement of Reg. 33.

"Non-application to the Government of Belize.

  1. (1) Nothing in these Regulations shall apply to the Government of Belize and no permission, permit or approval of the Central Bank or any other authority shall be required by or on behalf of the Government of Belize for opening and operating a bank account in any currency, or for conducting any

transactions in relation to any securities or otherwise, or for any other dealings in foreign currency.

(2) In these Regulations, "Government of Belize" includes any Ministry or Department of the Government of Belize".

  1. These Regulations shall come into force on the 24th day of June, 2013.
