Evidence (Proceedings in Other Jurisdictions) Act 2000
The Bahamas Parliament enacted this legislation to empower the Supreme Court of The Bahamas to assist foreign courts and tribunals in obtaining evidence for civil proceedings. Upon application by a requesting court, the Supreme Court may issue orders mandating witness examinations, document production, and property inspection while preserving statutory privileges and national security exemptions. The Act further extends these evidentiary powers to international proceedings before judicial bodies such as the International Court of Justice and establishes corresponding rules of court.
