Effective 1 September 2026, Richard Doornbosch will join the board of the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM). As a board member, he will be responsible for supervising the quality of audit and reporting, as well as the integrity and resilience of the capital markets. The appointment is for a term of four years. The appointment of Richard Doornbosch will fill the board vacancy that will arise in September following the resignation of Jos Heuvelman.
Richard Doornbosch (1973) is an economist and has been president of the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS) since 2020. Prior to this, he held various positions at the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, and worked abroad for several years for organizations including the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
A consistent theme in Doornbosch's career has been leading major strategic change initiatives. He is a strong executive with a solid financial background and extensive international experience. Doornbosch has a broad network both within the Netherlands and internationally.
The supervisory board and the board of the AFM are delighted with his appointment. Sander Dekker, chair of the supervisory board: 'With his broad experience in the financial sector, Richard Doornbosch is a valuable addition to the AFM. In a complex, rapidly changing, and increasingly international environment, his knowledge, expertise, and network make a difference.'
Laura van Geest, CEO of the AFM: 'I know Richard as a connecting person with an outside-in perspective. He is well-suited for the AFM, given the changes ahead.'
Richard Doornbosch: 'I am very much looking forward to starting at the AFM. A professional organization at the heart of financial supervision in the Netherlands. I have experienced that financial markets do not always operate fairly, transparently, and orderly on their own, and effective supervision is urgently needed for this, which I am keen to advocate for.'
Effective 1 September 2026, the AFM board will consist of Laura van Geest (CEO), Hanzo van Beusekom, Marije Lely, and Richard Doornbosch.
