Bank Indonesia Regulation Number 11/21/PBI/2009 Concerning Issuance and Circulation of the 2009 Issue of 2,000 Rupiah Banknotes

Bank Indonesia issued Regulation Number 11/21/PBI/2009 to authorize the issuance and circulation of the 2009 issue of 2,000 Rupiah banknotes as legal tender. The regulation mandates that these cotton fiber banknotes feature National Hero Pangeran Antasari on the obverse and Dayak Traditional Dance on the reverse, with a dominant grey color. Unofficial Translation BANK INDONESIA REGULATION NUMBER: 11/21/PBI/2009 CONCERNING ISSUANCE AND CIRCULATION OF THE YEAR 2009 ISSUE OF BANKNOTES IN THE 2,000 (TWO THOUSAND) RUPIAH DENOMINATION BY THE GRACE OF THE GOD THE ALMIGHTY THE GOVERNOR OF BANK INDONESIA, Considering : a. Whereas the growth in public activity in cash transactions needs to be supported by availability of adequate amounts of rupiah currency with easily recognizable marks, which is as supporting element of national economic activities; b. Whereas the issuance and the circulation of rupiah by Bank Indonesia to provide adequate amounts of rupiah in public as legal tender, that accelerating public activity in cash transactions; c. Now therefore, based on the considerations referred to in letter a and letter b, it is necessary to enact a Bank Indonesia Regulation concerning the Issuance and Circulation of the Year 2009 issue of banknotes in the 2,000 (two thousand) rupiah denomination. In view of : 1. Unofficial Translation Indonesia Number 52 of 2004, Supplement to State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia Number 4338) as amended by Bank Indonesia Regulation Number 9/10/PBI/2007 (State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia Number 113 of 2007, Supplement to State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia Number 4762); HAS DECREED: To enact : THE BANK INDONESIA REGULATION CONCERNING ISSUANCE AND CIRCULATION OF THE YEAR 2009 ISSUE OF BANKNOTES IN THE 2,000 (TWO THOUSAND) RUPIAH DENOMINATION. Article 1 Bank Indonesia shall Issue and Circulate The Year 2009 Issue of Currency in the 2,000 (two thousand) Rupiah denomination as legal tender in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia. Article 2 The rupiah currency referred to in Article 1 is a banknote produced from cotton fiber material. Article 3 The face value of the rupiah currency referred to in Article 1 is Rp 2,000 (two thousand rupiahs). Article 4 The specifications of the currency in the 2,000 (two thousand) rupiah denomination referred to in Article 1 are: a. color the dominant color printed on the obverse and reverse sides of the banknote is grey.

  1. obverse side a) main image depicting of National Hero and underneath the inscription of “PANGERAN ANTASARI”; b) to the left of the main image and on the left and right of the center the Borneo ornament inscribed directly, and on the left and right of the upper the yellow curved line that will change to the yellowish green under ultra violet light; c) to the lower left of the main image, the words “BANK INDONESIA” inscribed horizontally, and underneath, the inscription of “DUA RIBU RUPIAH” (two thousand Rupiah); d) to the upper left of the main image, directly horizontal and to the right of the watermark with vertical direction, the inscription of number “2000”; e) to the left of the main image, below the number “2000” representing face value, a rectoverso image that if held up to the light will reveal a complete logo of Bank Indonesia; f) to the left of the main image and below the rectoverso image, a blind code formed in rectangular shape; g) to the upper right of the main image, a latent image of the inscription of BI in a rectangular frame in the shape of a Kalimantan ornament, visible from a certain angle; h) to the upper right of the main image, the national emblem of the “Garuda Pancasila”; i) to the lower right of the image, the number “2009” representing year of print (2009 number will be changed according to the year of print), inscription of “DEWAN GUBERNUR” (Board Of Governors), signature of the Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia accompanied by inscription of “DEPUTI GUBERNUR SENIOR” (senior deputy governor) and signature of a Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia and the inscription of “DEPUTI GUBERNUR” (Deputy Governor); j) background and filler consisting of wavy, slanted lines and a series of lines curved in the shape of Kalimantan ornament; k) microtext legible only with the aid of a magnifying glass:

  5. serial number consisting of 3 (three) letters and 6 (six) digits, located to the lower left of the banknote and printed in black ink that glows green under ultraviolet light, and to the upper right, located below the inscription of “BANK INDONESIA” and printed in red ink that glows orange under ultraviolet light;
  6. to the upper right, below the serial number, a rectoverso image that if held up to the light will reveal a complete logo of Bank Indonesia;
  7. to the lower right, the inscription of the name of the banknote manufacturer and the year of “2009”;

Unofficial Translation 8) microtext legible only with the aid of a magnifying glass: a) at the left edge and right edge in the middle of the banknote, arranged horizontally, the inscription of BANKINDONESIA; b) at the right edge of the main image, inscribed as BANKINDONESIA, forming a vertical line; c) to the lower right of the main image, inscribed as BANKINDONESIA, filling the space in the number “2000”; 9) minitext legible without the aid of a magnifying glass, located above and below the watermark, the inscription of BANKINDONESIA forming curves in varying color and text size. 3. material the specifications of this banknote are as follows: a. Made of cotton fiber; b. Length 141 mm and width 65 mm; c. Grey color; d. Does not glow under ultraviolet light; e. Watermark depicting the National Hero Pangeran Antasari; f. Woven security thread with repeated micro inscription of “BI2000”. Article 5 The Rupiah currency as referred to in Article 1 shall be issued and placed in circulation commencing from July 10, 2009. Article 6 This Bank Indonesia Regulation shall come into force on the date of its enactment. So everyone knows, it is ordered that this rule be published in the State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia
