Adjusting and Indexing Certain Regulatory Thresholds

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation proposes to update and automatically index certain regulatory thresholds across multiple FDIC rules to reflect historical inflation. Using the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers, the agency will initially adjust these dollar-based limits and subsequently trigger automatic biennial revisions or adjustments when cumulative inflation exceeds eight percent. This indexing framework preserves the real-term applicability of regulatory requirements, preventing smaller and mid-size institutions from facing unintended compliance burdens solely due to inflation rather than actual changes in their size or risk profile.
