Consumer Leasing (Regulation M) 2022 Threshold Adjustment

The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection finalized amendments to the official interpretations for Regulation M to adjust the consumer lease exemption threshold. Based on the annual percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers, the threshold amount increases from $58,300 to $61,000 effective January 1, 2022. These technical revisions memorialize the calculation method required by the Dodd-Frank Act for annual inflation adjustments to the exemption limit.
