Enacted by the Legislative Assembly of Samoa, this legislation establishes a comprehensive legal framework for the provision and obtaining of international mutual assistance in criminal investigations and proceedings. It empowers the Attorney-General to formally request foreign jurisdictions to locate individuals, obtain evidence, serve legal documents, and enforce confiscation or restraining orders related to serious offences. Conversely, the Act regulates incoming foreign requests by outlining procedures for executing search warrants, securing witness testimony via video link, managing prisoner transit, and registering foreign confiscation orders for domestic enforcement.
