CMA Uganda Conducts Capital Markets Education Session at Makerere University

The Capital Markets Authority Uganda, in partnership with the Uganda Securities Exchange and ASAMU, conducted a capital markets public education session at Makerere University Business School on 8 April 2026. The engagement aimed to increase financial literacy among students by explaining investment products such as government bonds, corporate bonds, and unit trusts, while emphasizing the importance of early investing for long-term wealth creation. Representatives from market intermediaries including Old Mutual Uganda and Britam Uganda provided practical insights into market operations to support the Authority's ongoing investor education initiatives.

Investor education remains one of the core mandates of the Capital Markets Authority Uganda and a key priority under the Authority’s Strategic Plan for FY2025/2026–2029/2030. As part of ongoing efforts to enhance financial literacy and increase public participation in Uganda’s capital markets, the Capital Markets Authority Uganda, in partnership with the Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) and the Accounting Students Association of Makerere University Business School (ASAMU), conducted a capital markets public education session at Makerere University Business School in Nakawa on 8 th April 2026.

The engagement aimed to increase awareness among students about the various investment opportunities available within Uganda’s capital markets. Discussions focused on investment products such as government bonds, corporate bonds, and unit trusts, as well as the role of capital markets in wealth creation and economic development.

Speaking during the session, Bob Trubish our Director Human Resource & Administration encouraged students to begin investing early and emphasized the importance of making informed financial decisions to build long-term wealth. He also simplified key concepts related to capital markets products to help students better understand how the investment instruments operate.

Additionally, Caroline Epodoi Ebiru, our head of procurement during a panel session answered questions from various students in the audience and emphasis was placed on growing their capital while still young so as to have long term finance in the future.

Representatives from market intermediaries, including Old Mutual Uganda, Britam Uganda, Corner Stone Asset Managers, and the Uganda Securities Exchange, provided practical insights into capital markets operations and explained key market terminologies to students.

The session forms part of CMA’s ongoing investor education initiatives aimed at increasing financial literacy and promoting wider participation in Uganda’s capital markets as the Authority marks 30 years of market development and investor protection.
