Regarding the provision of agricultural loan facilities to farmers affected by recent floods in various parts of the country.
Due to heavy rainfall and water coming from upstream, widespread damage has occurred to crops such as Boro Aman and other crops, as well as the fisheries sector, in 21 districts (Kurigram, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Rangpur, Bogura, Sirajganj, Tangail, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Netrokona, Dhaka, Munshiganj, Manikganj, Rajbari, Faridpur, Shariatpur, Madaripur, Sunamganj, Sylhet, and Bhola) in various parts of the country. Consequently, it has been decided to strengthen the distribution of new loans based on actual demand and reality in the Boro Aman and other crops and fisheries sectors, and to provide loans at discounted interest rates for rabi crops and imported alternative crops (pulses, oilseeds, spices, and corn) in the affected areas, so that the affected farmers can recover from the damage and continue agricultural production activities. Banks will closely monitor to ensure that farmers affected by the floods can avail themselves of new loan facilities in a timely manner according to actual needs and do not face any harassment in getting loans. In addition, banks will inform this department of progress in this matter by October 20, 2014.
These instructions will be implemented immediately.
