BFIU Circular Letter No. 03: Amendment of BFIU Circular Letter No. 01/2017 Dated 16 January 2017

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) amends the definition of "Dignitaries" in the footnote on pages 10 and 15 of Circular Letter No. 01/2017. The updated definition includes Members of Parliament, City Corporation Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Councilors, gazetted officers of Grade 9 and above, university teachers, Upazila Parishad Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen, Union Parishad Chairmen, Poura Mayors and Councilors, private university professors, private college principals, private high school headmasters, editors of national daily newspapers, Notaries Public, officers of Grade 7 or above in semi-government/autonomous/state organizations, and Grade 9 and above officers of the Bangladesh Bank. This revised definition applies to all scheduled banks operating in Bangladesh.

Dear Sir,

Reference: Amendment of BFIU Circular Letter No. 01/2017, dated 16 January 2017.

The Unit hereby replaces the definition of "Dignitaries" provided in the footnote on pages 10 and 15 of "Guidelines for Customer Due Diligence and Record Keeping of Customers and Beneficial Owners" issued to all scheduled banks through BFIU Circular Letter No. 01/2017, dated 16 January 2017, as follows:

"Dignitaries shall mean Members of Parliament, Mayors, Deputy Mayors and Councilors of City Corporations, Gazetted Officers of Grade 9 and above of the National Pay Scale, Teachers of Public Universities, Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen of Upazila Parishads, Chairmen of Union Parishads, Mayors and Councilors of Pouras (Municipalities), Professors of Private Universities, Principals of Private Colleges, Head Teachers of Private High Schools, Editors of National Daily Newspapers, Notaries Public, Officers of Grade 7 or above of Semi-government/Autonomous/State Organizations, and Officers of Grade 9 and above of Bangladesh Bank."
